The first prototype of the “large Moskvich” was built in 1964, at a time when the 408 model had not yet fully entered the production line. It was designated 70S1 — the 1970 model, sedan, experimental series No. 1. The work was carried out by the General Layout Department (OGK) of MZMA under the leadership of Rostislav Lipgart.

This car was used to test elements of an advanced chassis, including a new steering system and front disc brakes. Its most notable external feature was an elongated front end, with an increased distance from the bumper corners to the front wheel arch. A standard M‑408 engine was installed.

The first prototype of the “big Moskvich,” photographed around 1964 or 1965. The body of this prototype closely resembled that of the Moskvich 408, but differed in its dimensions and proportions. The car did not receive an original exterior design, as it was just a running mock-up built to test individual components of the new chassis.
