Moskvich 3-5 of the third series (3-5-3) can be easily distinguished from their predecessors by the safety door handles taken from the VAZ-2101 Zhiguli (Fiat-124R). Although the prototypes of the 3-5-1 and 3-5-2 series clearly demonstrated the need for further design development, the third series looked almost the same. The interior was done no less roughly.
As part of this pilot series, the Moskvich-3-5 with right-hand drive and the station wagon 3-5-3U (2145) appeared for the first time. One of the cars was painted Ruby and had a twin Stromberg carburetor. Also engineers tested new KP-9 gearbox, front disc brakes, and spring rear suspension.
The light-colored Moskvich-3-5-3 prototype (built in 1970) was destroyed in crash test on May 5, 1972, when a prototype of the next series 3-5-4 already existed. The car had previously passed a full cycle of road tests and had a mileage of 83,500 km. Read more
