The car was a modified version of the previous experimental series 3-5-5. It featured a new interior, refined appearance, and a modified heating and ventilation system. The first prototype was completed by early 1974; several more units were planned for construction that same year, with mass production scheduled for 1978. However, by order of the deputy minister of the USSR automotive industry, the project was discontinued.
Approximately in the first half of 1973, a full-size mock-up of the Moskvich-2141-3-5-6 car was made.
The factory photo shoot of the experimental Moskvich-2141 model 3-5-6 was carried out approximately in the spring–summer of 1974.
