The obvious futility of the body, tested on experimental series 1-4, led to the development of a fundamentally new body, made in the style of its European counterparts – in particular, the car turned out to be similar to the Fiat-132.

Moskvich 3-5-5 was developed quickly – work in this direction began in mid-1972, and in December the first silver-colored prototype was ready. The second car was painted cherry color and differed in decorative elements – in particular, the radiator grille. The haste affected the quality of the work – due to a design miscalculation, a fold appeared on the roof of the car. This flaw was fixed in the next series 3-5-6.

After testing, the silver Moskvich 3-5-5 was stored in the storerooms of the AZLK museum and in the 1990s ended up in the open-air collection of Mikhail Krasinets. The cherry-colored car was broken up at the Dmitrovsky testing ground; only individual parts have been preserved from it (in particular, the radiator grille is now installed on the silver car).

On the left side of the model were the forms of the previous body (Moskvich 3-5-1 – 3-5-4), on the right side were the new forms (Moskvich 3-5-5). These bodies were identical in size and basic proportions, but were strikingly different in the nature of the surfaces.

Two prototypes of Moskvich-2141 mod. 3-5-5 in silver and cherry were built by the end of 1972.

Both prototypes of Moskvich-2141 mod. 3-5-5 took part in a trip to Suzdal (~200-250 km from Moscow) in the winter of 1972-1973. Foreign analogue cars were traveling with them.
