Izh-2126-T was the first prototype in the project with industry index 2126. The letter “T” meant “technical project” (agreed with the Ministry of Automotive Industry).
Having received a state order for a new model, Izhevsk car designers attempted to construct whole family. The design of the Izh-2126-T body was based on the principle of modularity, which makes it easy to get a station wagon, van, sedan, and as a result the car turned out to be overly angular.
