Simultaneously with the 400−422 cargo van, a 400−421 five-door utility station wagon was planned.
The first copy with rear doors that opened in the direction of the car was built before October 1, 1946, the second, modified, with doors that opened in the opposite direction, like a sedan, was released in early 1947. These cars were significantly different from the experimental Station Wagen car, manufactured in Germany on the Opel Kadett chassis.
The van was the first to be accepted for production. It was mastered with great difficulty, and there were no more resources left for the passenger version. A copy built in 1947 participated in State tests of Moskvich cars in 1949; it was operated at the plant at least until 1954. The index, starting with the number 421, was worn by many of the wooden body parts of the 422 van, which were produced in series.
