Izh-2125 “Combi” is a “Moskvich-412” with a liftback body and a modified front design. The development of this car began in 1966, when the car plant in Izhevsk existed only in plans, and the assembly of Udmurt Moskvich cars did not start even in a temporary workshop.

At the AZLK plant, which developed the basic Moskvich-412, the Combi was criticized – it was argued that the car was unsafe for rear passengers, its front lights was ugly copied from Ford (probably referring to the Ford Zephyr), the interior would get cold when the fifth door was opened... In addition, the rear part of the Combi was considered inconvenient and unrepairable in the event of a road accident.

However, the Izhevsk Automobile Plant launched production of the Combi in 1973. One of the comments of the AZLK designers was taken into account – in production cars, the hinges of the fifth door became external and less dangerous for passengers. The car was produced in gradually increasing quantities, but it never became the main production at the plant. At the same time, the “Combi” was considered the flagship model – it was on it that modernizations were first “tested”, which were then distributed to other cars of the Izhevsk Automobile Plant.
