The first prototype of the Izhevsk “Combi”, manufactured in 1966, did not yet have the index 2125 and, in general, was very different from the production model. In front this car used 4 headlights, like on the export version of the Moskvich-408, but with original two-section sidelights.
The rear of the car differed from the production version in proportions and resembled the newest Renault 16, which the Soviet engineers were already familiar with – a little later it was even considered for a production at the Izhevsk Automobile Plant. The trunk door opening almost reached the bumper; narrow horizontal lights were used.
