In the summer of 1961, the first two prototypes of the ZAZ-966 were produced. The exterior was distinguished by large, stylish rear lights and a somewhat pretentious shape of the rear pillar. At the same time, in these cars were already found the main outlines of the body, divided by a belt line similar to the Chevrolet Corvair, and door shapes, very similar to the future production version.
