Late 1970s prototypes

Prototypes of the ZAZ-1102 based on the final concept have been produced since 1978. The cars of this series in profile were very reminiscent of the Ford Fiesta, and their front end was made based on the Vauxhall Chevette. Externally, two main types of prototypes can be distinguished.

The first option had vertical lights installed at the rear. The hood almost reached the front bumper, the front fenders stretched from the edges of the doors to the very front of the body.

The second, later version, with the same artistic design of the front end, had a different design – the wings and hood became short, a large transverse body part appeared above the bumper. At the rear, horizontal lights were used, which were later installed on the serial ZAZ-968M.
